Can this cause an amp to get too hot?

Okay --- I had a JL 300/4 amp and replaced it with a JL 450/4 amp. My 450/4 is getting way hot when run hard..... Too hot. I checked the ground; good w/ 4 gauge wire. Checked the power supply; Good with 4 gauge cable all the way from the battery.

Okay -- I noticed the shop had to lengthen the rear speaker wires a little because they weren't long enough to reach the 450/4 rear speaker outputs --- The 450/4 had outputs in different locations than the 300/4....... So the shop lengthened the 4 wires BUT it looks like they used smaller guage speaker wire than what runs to the speakers........ In other words -- the 4 wires coming out of the amp for the 2 rear channels is say (guessing here) 18 guage wire for about 12 inches, then the rest of the wires running to the speakers is say 14 guage....

Will/ can this cause an amp to run excessively hot?

thanks

yea, check the gain and also what way is it mounted? JL says that you should mount then so that they black heat sinks have access to fresh cool air as that is their way of keeping cool.
