Can my amp put out more than 300 watts?

The amp is what clips and not the sub. Also people who claim to be putting xxxx more watts through a sub usually have no idea what they are talking about.

If the sub says 300w RMS run it at 300w rms. If you want to run 500w rms which your amp cant even come close to doing, then buy a new amp and sub.

Well, how exactly do you say that if a sub can only run at 300RMS it will ONLY run at 300RMS.

If you are pushing more power though it won't it increase it.

I mean I know being an engineer, you can spec something at say 25,000lb forces, but in reality it can withstand 40,000lb ..

So obviously things can be overloaded.

I was stating that the op should run a 300w sub at 300w rms max, unless he wants it to break.

"if you are pushing more power though it wont it increase it." - i dont know what you are saying here.

Just because the sub can be ran over 300w does not mean it should by any means and especially for daily.

Also not all subs are conservatively rated, you cant assume that a 300w rms sub can handle 500w rms, or even 400w rms. Each manufacturer rates their subs differently, a lot of them rate them thermally which is fine but you run into the problem of what the softparts can handle. Which leads to why they are rated at the nominal power that they are, that particular sub is meant to be ran at 300w RMS. There are tons of other factors that are involved in determining how much you can push a sub, some subs cant even be ran at nominal rated power because of the box.
