Can my amp hurts my woofers?

I currently have 2 type-r's rated 500 rms each as you probably know, and I have a cheap profile amp giving them 175 watts rms each at 2 ohms while I save up to buy a bigger and better amp. Sometimes I get a little carried away and the amp heats up and goes into protect mode so I back off. I am wondering can this situation possibly hurt my subwoofers? I don't really care if it fries the amp I just don't want any damage done to the subs.

Also if you have any suggestions as to a good amp in a price range of less than 400$ ish for the 2 type-r 12's please list those as well. Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Haha no I never smell the coils or any of that. Yeah you're probably right, I just want more boom and I guess I'll just have to wait for a new amp. Thanks

if you wanna make them type arghhs rumble, grab an aq2200d $389 shipped....and to answer ur question, yes, it can harm ur subs...ur sending the amp into protect, too low on voltage, and sending the subs a clipped signal...grab more power (batts, h/o alt, big 3), grab another amp and dont murder ur subs

Alright well I'm looking at getting the AQ1200d or the new hifonics brutus 1700 watt amp because the 2200d is a little too much for me. And the power upgrade is in the works too but that's a little more pricy from what i understand //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Even clipped to shit i don't think that amp could kill your type-rs but just to be safe don't send it into protect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

giving subs too little power can be bad for them 1) it will draw a higher current generating more heat.

2) it will more than likely cause clipping which generates heat

3) they're sub woofers, not woofers
You sir are incorrect. While it does generate more heat, a 175rms amplifier will NOT create the heat necessary to blow those Type Rs. Even with bass boost, and gains all the way up, there is just not enough heat to blow them.

Woofers is just slang for subwoofers. Everyone knows that.
