Can I get an honest answer here?

OK, well, I need an amp to power my single 12" CVR DVC 4 Ohms. I want it to get as loud as possible while still sounding decent. There are many amp choices I can go with, but I don't know if I should drop big money ($200-$300) or not ($100). For example I am considering something like a Kicker ZX750.1 to something like a Profile AP1000M.

Will I honestly hear a difference? Will it honestly get louder with the Kicker? Is it honestly worth the extra money? I'm not a huge audio guru, but I know enough to go with the Kicker, but based off the experience I have...I haven't heard both the decide for myself and to truly go with the Kicker. Now, many hear have heard their fair share of cheap amps vs. expensive amps. I was hoping to get an honest answer here that will steer me in the right direction.

Along these lines, once my Moroso battery box is ready to accept my under hood battery in the trunk, I plan to pull the battery and bring it in the house before putting it in the trunk. The point being to compare my Parasound amp and Dynaudio bookshelf system to my profile CA200 and then 400SX on the Dyn bookshelf speakers (all will use the existing HT Sub/amp combo). I will level match the gain with my SPL meter at the listening position, first.

I want to see if a dual mono output stage Parasound home amp (75x2 @ the 4-ohm of my Dynaudio stand-mount speakers) of the AC mains sounds significantly different vs the Profile car amps off pure DC straight from the battery. Because of no alt/charging it will not be a really high level test, and will use the HT crossover to remove the bass from the signal and continue to give it to the HT Sub/amp combo.

Should be interesting and only take a little while, once I can get around to it. Then just throw the battery on my 6a 12v DC charger and carry it out to the car and put it in the Moroso battery box in the trunk.

Probably be done in ~1 week or so. If you can wait...

...of course this will be done with a much cleaner environment (acoustics and DC power supply) than is ever the case in a car, but that should increase the ability to determine if there is much of a difference to me.

I might have my roommate switch the two for me, so I don't know which is playing. If I do, that would kill the placebo effect to a certain extent.

Really though, I don't think you will have your answer to your satisfaction unless you did something similar, yourself.

i think for that sub, a good amp with be a memphis mcd500, might be a little more than you want to spend but will run that sub very nicely! if you want to really make it sound nice a alpine pdx1.600 will run it even better
