ive got a new head unit with 3 sets of preouts.2 sets are going to an amp for sub and rear speakers.i don't have an amp yet for the front speakers but I want to go ahead and put the rca cables and wires in place while the dash is apart.can I hook the front speakers straight to my head unit now with extra speaker wire attached for when I can afford a nice amp later? I guess what im asking is can I amp my front speakers while theyre still wired to head unit.

yeah u can do that for convenience so you only have to disassble the radio once.

put some electrical tape over the rca heads tho cause if they touch eachother or metal it'll cause feedback

You can wire the speakers to the head-unit or the amplifier but not both at same time..

I think I understand what you want to do which you can,but I think you have to disconnect the wires from your radio to front speakers when you connect the extra wires from the speakers to the amp.

I was trying to keep from disassembling my dash and radio again when I get an amp. so yes, I was wanting to hook an amp to existing cables and wires while speakers were still connected at head unit. So speakers have to be hooked at head or amp and not both?

you don't have to disassemble the dash, when you are ready for the amp disconnect the wires for the speakers AT THE SPEAKER, tape up each wire lead and stuff them in a dark corner, now hook up the existing interconnects (RCA's) to the amp and run wires from the amp to the speaker/s.. Problem solved..

yes that is easy except my speakers are in the factory door location . im using the factory wiring plug.

okay, cut the plug off and carry on..
