Everytime i try to download any torrents, they are extremely slow. i have cable and the downloads are slower than dial-up. i am using BitTorrent to download amd always get teh yellow light. anyone have any tips or good programs to get the torrents?

Usenet speeds are superior, but there are a lot of private torrent communities where the selection takes a huge fat shit all over newsgroups. Communities that enforce ratios usually have good speeds too, as people don't hit and run. Oink is my current favorite, shit is great. 160,000 seeders to 24,000 leechers, tons of stuff from any genre you can think of, tons of FLAC rips, and every file has a minimum bitrate of 192. I've had a lot of my requests filled too.

As far as speeds, they are dependent on the seeders upstream. It's not like downloading from a server, if the one person distributing the file only has a 20kup and is seeding to 5 people, the speeds you'll get will be shitty.

in my experience yes, torrents are the better route to go. but i plan on going to newsgroups when i upgrade from dialup to high speed cable

The yellow light means that your BT client isn't getting any incoming info due to firewall.

You could also be using a blacklisted port and your ISP is limiting your bandwidth.

x2 i was going to say that. open the port on your router. and jmac told me about newsgroups and i got a few easynews accounts and newsleecher. i love it.
