im new to car audio and stumbled apon this site and figure u guys can answer some questions. im thinking about buying a 12w6 but not sure if it'll be better then a 12' L7

and whats a good amp for the jl or l7.

That's a subjective question.

Whatever the RMS of the driver is, is what I'd shoot for.

Personally I'd get the JL.

The w6 is more sq oriented and the L7 is more spl oriented. They're totally opposite and meet the needs of different goals.

sealed ftw but thats my personal opinion cuz i never heard a ported

if your not stuck on the jl name you can get a different sub that will sound just as good and get louder.

One W6 should hit pretty nice. I'd do ported. It won't affect the SQ much and will get a little louder. I'm getting a single 13W6 in ported enclosure installed next week.

In terms of extension and impact, it scored a 9 out of 10 on CA&E review of it (12W6) as well as just about all the other categories. Awesome all around subwoofer (SQ and loud combined)
