So anyways my not-so-audio-savvy brother and I decided to audition each other's subs, his being an RE SE 12 in 2 cubes ported tuned to 32 hz, and mine being an IDQ12v3 sealed in 1 cube. I made sure his was wired for 4 ohm by asking him, "This is wired for 4 ohm right?" and he said, "Yeah it's 4 ohm." So we proceeded to swap subs and enclosures for the weekend.
Long story short I was driving to St. Louis (4 hours) for a bachelor party Sat night and was cranking on it pretty hard when the amp went into thermal protect after maybe an hour and a half. (This happens sometimes anyways) So I flipped the switch for my fan and resumed jamming and everything was cool. The whole way home the next day with it up loud, and with all the other driving around I have done for work, etc. today and I had no other problems...
So tonight we go to swap them back and while I was waiting for him to get back to his place I was sitting in the garage having a beer and saw his RE box sitting there. So, being bored I opened it up and amongst his paper work I saw that the sub is in fact D4. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif I wanged the sub out of the box, and yes, it is wired for 2 ohms. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
After giving him a little grief about trying to smoke my amp, I guess I was a bit surprised that the ol' Cadence was so forgiving of a 2 ohm bridged load. Maybe most amps will do what this one did, but at any rate I guess I am just happy it didn't emit any magic smoke. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
