Cable intro price, again and again?

Getting married in a month so I’m looking into cable & internet rates for the house. There’s the typical “intro” rates that are valid 6mos, then go up to whatever price. Now, one thing a friend was telling me is that he will use up the intro rate for 6 mos, then go up to the company (since the phone takes forever) and then sign up to a new plan and get that intro rate. He said he’s been doing it for a little over a year now and they never give him any trouble. I don’t see how this is possible, but who knows…

I’ve lived on my own for a while in stints (co-op in another city) so I’ve never had to worry about after the intro period since I move back home. Just curious if anyone else does this. Or, do you wind up paying the increased price after the intro period?

what plan is that? just get the 3 for 3 for a year, then after that year is up get your wife to do it, then after that put it in someone else's name.

i dont know how it is in alabama but here i just switch between my name and my girls name...but its not much of a discount, maybe like $10-$20 a month

I've heard of people complaining about the service after the intro period. They threaten to cancel then the cable company gives them a discount. Who knows if it's the truth.

The thing is, after your year intro period, you are not under a contract. You can always get the latest promotion.

i dont know about that exactly but my uncle did go to the cable company, say that he was unhappy and threaten to cancel. when he did they offered to extend the trial price another year. dont know how many times that will work before they just let you cancel but that worked for him.

Be sure you read the contract...

They have gotten smart about that...

Some will give you the promotion for a year, but require a 2 year contract...

Called last night. $63.03/year for extended cable & 5 meg service for 12mos.

I call them every 6 months and get on promo rates. Or if I have a problem or question and I call them they always try to sell me additional services over teh phone before I hang up, at that time you can ask about promos and they will hook you up on the spot.
