By Jakes Good Graces...and cuz i make him laugh :)

so i have a noob question....
my gain is set at 1/4

will i be louder with 1/4 gain and hu volume of 80/80

or something like 1/2 gain and hu volume of like 60/80

you guys get the point?

Perhaps you shouldnt even own a sub like that if you must ask questions like that. Ive found on my pioneer the preout voltage is highest at 50, and doesnt get any higher, i assume it clips after that point. So i set my gains with it around 48, and the max i listen to it is 45. My theory behind this is that i get the cleanest signal that way, dont know if its true but it works for me.

very nice looking sub.

never max out ur headunits vol you will def clip the signal. you have to set the gain accordingly to the output of ur headunit. i wouldnt go up to 1/2 gain unless ur headunit is only 2v output. if ur headunit is 4v dont go over 1/4. remember it is a class d amp and they can fry from too much input voltage, plus you dont need alot of voltage to get them going.

another thing not all gain pots are the same! the input isnt always smooth on ur gains too, some amps are jumpy.

That is a different, larger, motor -- working on the v.2 prototype for that one as well.

BL^2 / RE on that one is greater than double the Nightshade -- this one is pretty well level in motor strength and is physically smaller than the current Nightshade motor.

oh ok //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thanks guys on the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i will re-adjust my gains

This is the testing I did on this particular sub (prototype for upcoming Z version 2) :

148.4 -- 1250 watts

150.1 -- 2020 watts

150.8 -- 2530 watts

152.5 -- 3980 watts

153.1 -- 5350 watts

153.2 -- 5570 watts

----------

The above earlier testing was done with 2 Hard / 1 Soft of our current Nightshade spiders (the exact sub that he now has, actually).

---

New testing done today with two of the "new" spiders w/ double tinsel leads (much softer) on another identical prototype motor -- pending a bit more testing this will most likely be the "standard" suspension on production model Z v.2 drivers :

Same box... "magic box" in the Jeep.

HU Setting / Power / SPL

-6 / 540 watts / 146.0 dB

-5 / 680 watts / 146.9 dB

-4 / 860 watts / 147.7 dB

-3 / 1090 watts / 148.6 dB

-2 / 1380 watts / 149.5 dB

-1 / 1730 watts / 150.3 dB

0 / 2230 watts / 151.2 dB

+1 / 2780 watts / 151.9 dB

+2 / 3480 watts / 152.8 dB

+3 / 4800 watts / 153.5 dB

Notice that large gain in SPL per watt... also, notice that with "rated power" I am right around 150 dB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am still waiting on production coil samples... I will do another round of testing of SPL per watt at that time.

I also expect gains on production motors vs. prototype -- as the production has a tighter gap (more BL).
