very nice. you on the swede speed or turbobricks forums?

I see you picked the volvo, good choice. As the other person said, see if the timing belt's been replaced recently. If it hasn't and you can't do it yourself expect that 500 to turn into 1500+.

:update: car stalled and wouldnt start due to a clogged pcv system which is very very very common with volvos getting the car for free =O gonna pull the most of the pcv system and the flame box degunk and reattach.

A clogged PCV valve should have nothing to do with the car stalling(unless its leaking vacuum). And, according to ALLDATA, there are no problems with the PCV system on your car or any other Volvo in that year.

Now if the pcv system is leaking vacuum, that could cause a stalling.( It will mess with the MAF sensor)

There are a few TSIB's for "no start" having to do with the immobilizer system, one for a faulty power cable and one for a faulty ignition switch.

But free is even better.

Here is your PCV hose...

At the beginning of October 1995, a modified crankcase ventilation system was introduced. The crankcase ventilation pipe and the flame traps have been modified.

The vacuum hose has been moved from the multi-****** to a ****** cover on the intake manifold at the power steering pump.

At the beginning of November 1995, a further modification was carried out to the crankcase ventilation pipe on engines without a variable intake manifold, i.e. engines with Fenix and Motronic (not turbo) engine management systems.

On the engines in question, the pipe introduced in October l995 appears as in the illustration.

This pipe is clamped in the intake manifold rear mounting screw.

This hose was mounted on engines with engine serial number between: 5829626-616344 and IS not available as a replacement part.

If the above pipe needs to be replaced, the pipe introduced in November 1995 should be used instead, P/N 9179305-9

If this pipe is replaced, the fresh air hose must also be replaced according to P/N shown:

Also check your MAF connector, there was a recall/tsib for it as well and could also cause stalling.

Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. and Volvo Canada Ltd. have announced a service campaign affecting 1998 Volvo S70/V70/C70 turbo models. Approximately 24,490 vehicles in the US and 2,685 vehicles in Canada are affected.

There is the possibility normal engine vibration may effect the electrical connection in the cable connector at the mass air flow sensor. In affected vehicles the connector will be secured with a clamp.

All owners of these affected vehicles will by notified by mail the week of June 1, 1998.
