buying a used car, what i need to do?

im about to purchase a used car in california from a private seller and little lost on what documents i will need. so far i was told i will need a bill of sale, the title of the vehicle with both sigs on it, written agreement w/sig, then pay off DMV fees.

in IL to get it titled and plates you need a bill of sale and the title from him (without any liens). and he has to sign the title over to you. keep in mind you will be paying taxes on car, and there are fees for getting the title and plates.

call the DMV to make sure you get all the right docs.
