It was in the car when we bought it form the previous owner and its a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. Should I keep it instead of a fuse or should I replace it with a fuse? I am running around 1500 rms. I am almost positive I need a larger rated fuse/breaker correct?

So this is installed in the power line instead of a fuse? Personally I'd try it out. If it doesn't pop under normal listening its only more protection for your amps/power wire in the event of a short. Circuit breakers generally take longer to trip than a fuse does as well in my experience. Might as well try to save a few bucks

2 feet is a long way. i hope that power wire is well protected, routed, and secured - as if it was OEM.

breakers for cars are iffy. they are cheap and not well suited for an engine bay. the terminals are exposed - not a good thing. they aren't water resistant - another down side. i don't use breakers in car audio.

i prefer ANL fuses and watertight fuse holders. i want the fuse as close as possible to minimize any length of unprotected wire.

will it handle 1500W RMS? maybe. actual current draw depends on many variables. could you get it to pop? maybe. will you? depends.

note also that most breakers can only sustain 80% of their rating. i haven't seen the time/current curve for this particular breaker. that will tell you all you need to know. but i'm not sure you'll ever get that info.

sorry, i changed topics. the physical connections between wire and breaker terminal isn't water resistant since they are exposed. with a good ANL holder you get a seal around the wire jacket and the copper is not exposed. with this type of connection, the ring terminals and copper are exposed.

FYI - detailed information on CooperBussman breakers:

my point was those "covers" aren't sufficient for protecting all exposed metal surfaces. the ring terminals themselves are exposed once connected.

not saying it won't work - you just have to be very careful when you install and mount it.
