I think they are good. Without competing ideas, we become complacent. Even if I don't agree with the ideas.

Trying to find the story but basically a guy was peacefully protesting and burnt a flag, two marines (could have been army) saw him doing it, set him on fire with gasoline. EEK.
I'm not for burning the flag, unless its for disposal. I think its one of those things that people have done in the past for VERY good reasons, but now its done for the dramatic purpose.

Who decides what is a good reason?

This statement it self is extremly ignorant. To paint one entire group of people as ignorant because of a minority of them is rediculous. As for the Flag burning, Im ok with it when its done for the right reason. If the government says they are banning Snickers Bars than its not a good reason. If someone wants to protest the war or something of that magnatude, than I have no problem with it. Keep in mind that if we all paid this no mind it would stop anyways because it would not be garnering the attention the protesters are looking for anyways

It is disrespectful to the country. Even if you don't like what is going on, or who is running, have some god **** respect for the people that protect you way of life.

That attitude annoys me.

If someone is unhappy with the country, wouldn't it make more sense for them to stay and try to change it through the processes we have available? Seems a little illogical to think that just because you live here, you're required to shut up and not have an opinion that goes against the majority.

That being said, there's a difference between protesting and just *****ing in general.

Im the most sarcastic individual you will ever meet, but man that statement had no hint of sarcasm in it to me, not to mention sarcasm on boards doesnt work IMO as the WAY its said is usually what implies sarcasm as opposed to WHAT it said.

Being offended and calling you ignorant are two different things my freind. I dont think I was crying about it, all I was saying is that I hate when people paint an enitre group with one brush because of the actions of a few. I feel its an unfair statement. You responded by saying you were being sarcastic. I never said I didnt believe you, I said I didnt pick up a hint of sarcasm in the statement, and then suggested that sarcasm is not the best way to present yourself on a forum as its a hard thing to portray in print.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people say "If you don't like the country, you should leave"
IT IS IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS TO REDRESS OUR GOVERNMENT FOR GRIEVANCES!!

Are you that fucking stupid? A protest is a means to get the governement to change or to address certain issue. Millionaires and companies get lobbyists. College kids have protests. They are simply petitioning the government. I can call my congressman everyday. That is not harassment, that is petitioning my government.

You should not just sit back and watch shit happen. You should try to get laws changed to benefit society. What laws that need to be changed is a matter of opinion. When our opinions collide, compromises result and that is a good thing.

There is a difference between not liking the current policies and having hatred for everything the country stands for. Protesting against a policy, or even a goverment official is ok, but burning a flag is much deeper. That shows hatred for a country as a whole. It is extremely disrespectful and says a lot more than what the protest is about at the moment. And if you are doing it strictly for the sake of attention, well then you should lay witht the burning flag. With that said, I guess under free speech it should be legal, but I do believe if you so much anger at the country that you feel the need to burn the flag then you will probably never be happy here and you should just leave.
