Bulging Caps

ya, replace them before they go bad

i blew a cap in my old memphis 1000d

looked up the exact part on google and found a distributor somewhere in asain

16 dollars later i had 2 new caps ovenrighted to me

with no expirence with this thing i went into it, soldered old ones off, new one on

worked like a charm, dont be affraid my friend, should work out fine

just make ure u have @ least a 90watt soldering iron, perferably one that runs off AC wall socket power...my butane powered one cant do it..... but defintiyl replace them before they go bad, easy as hell....and liek the other dude said, get a friend to help you and hold shit while u work on it, should be a 30 min process after u put the amp back together....

okie dokie...

so the numbers on the caps are:

3300uf which is easy enough.

(M) which means 20% tolerance

85 deg. C. which is max operation temp.

80 WV which kinda throws me off but google tells me that means working voltage.

If I am understanding this correctly from another sight I was on, its okay to exceed these values on the caps such the capacitance, operating temp and working voltage as long as I dont go under.

As I am looking for replacements online I am finding caps that have the right values but are not as physically large and the once I am replacing. Is that a problem?

One more question....It looks like there is hot glue globbed around all the components, Is that used just to stabalize the components or what?

I appreciate everyones help on this. This forum is great! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well you want to keep the specs fairly colse, the size is the real problem, in your case you can go: Shorter, or more narrow. If you go wider the 2 can't fit next to eachother and if you went taller you can't get the amp back together.

Try http://www.digi-key.com. That's where I got mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

wouldnt worry botu the size differance, the caps i repalced mine with were a completely differant size and did the trick

try not to go out of the set specs, the more power comping out of those COULD poentially fry something else in there not ment for that much power....

the replacement caps will have long leads so that if they dotn fit that way you can turn them sideways and mount them ina way they'll fit..... patch that ****er up and youll have a health amp :0

Ok I have the caps ordered and removed the old ones. I guess there was silicone (not hot glue like I thought before) holding the caps in place. Can I just remove the old stuff and use regular silicone from a hardware store to hold the new caps in place or is there a special silicone I need to use?

Thats why I have pictures!

The silver band on the side of the caps denotes where + is.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
