BTL's or Q's for SPL?

Just wondering how the BTL would sound in a DD set-up? I want SPL subs but the xmax numbers kinda got me thinking; the more excursion it has, the louder it gets right?

It says BTL for SPL but Q's have a longer excursion (16mm vs. 27mm). Someone educate me on this please. Thanks

btl for spl q for sql. xmax doesnt determine how loud it is it think it more helps with low end authority. I could be wrong

BTL is for spl... the Q is for SQ and the SSD is for SQL

The BTL Series does what others cant. It allows you to tailor your subwoofer for your exact extreme SPL needs.

The Q Series of subwoofers is our sound quality reference line.

A single BTL 18 would take up most of my cargo area. But then again, i am thinking about two 15's:yumyum: . Stupid question but; BTL isn't a competition only sub, is it? How does it do with music?

I dont personally own one so i cant tell you.

From hearsay its good. Its also one of the loudest. Two 15"s would take up more than a single 18" Zzzzz. And 2x15 would cost about double.

Dont sleep on that BTL that thing is a clean sub, no problems with being a DD. the same for the Q

You are partially correct, the longer the linear throw the louder it will get. Displacement (for a given frequency) is directly comparable to output.

xmax refers to 70% Bl strength, not the ENTIRE linear throw of the woofer

a BTL may have a much longer stroke than the Q, it just completes the stroke with much more distortion

That I do! I'm buying another one before the end of the year to put in the wall we're building.
I love this sub, it is LOUD and will take whatever power you throw at it. It hits the bass notes accurately and isn't just some sloppy SPL sub.

I have praised this sub in a ton of threads, and will continue to do so. I will never change subs unless Scott from Fi adds something better to the lineup.

if you get the third magent you get a longer coil and it bumps the excursion up 27mm on the btl
