BTL 15 Assaulting My Trunk Lid and Back Dash Vids

Let me start off by pointing that after a mishap with the glue and cone I decided to spray paint the cone black to cover the glue marks. Not too worried about the cone cosmetics I drilled a few hole near the top of the cone to aid in heat dissipation for shits and giggles. The cone is a lil ugly but I don't really care. I recently had a few electrical issues where the amp could run up to full tilt but any bit past would cause it to cut out. Fortunately with slight tweaking I can get it to play to its able max and rarely will it cut out. Sometime down the road an HO alt is in line. In the mean time it's loud enough to keep me happy daily and it's raping my poor trunk apart.

Not trying to put you down or anything, but by drilling holes in the dust cap you actually make the cooling not work.

It works on high compression and high speed air velocity...if you put holes in the dust cap it does not compress, and it is not high speed either. I would honestly say the cooling is probably cut by nearly half by those few holes, probably sounds really weird too.

Just a heads up...I don't want anybody else to think that it is a good idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!

Roflcakes @ drilling the cone for cooling. If your amp turns off that much you have a serious issue, and youre gonna end up ****ing your equipment if you dont fix it, just a heads up.

You must be killing that amp to have it shut off? Those things are beasts, you need to get the right electrical for it before you burn it up.

i didnt even notice the holes at first..but wow, i was wondering why you took the FI logo of(or painted over it, which looks like what you did)

either way. looks good. just different.

yeah, that was a badass system in that vw.

oh and x2 on finding out why that kicker is shutting off on you. some of them just dont like to play 1 ohm, my kx2500 was fine at 1.2 ohms and would never shut off on me. look into an alt if you're getting heavy voltage drops, but as long as you're staying above 12v, it really shouldnt be doing that.

No major voltage drops when the amp cuts out. At the lowest it'll go to about 12.5v-12.6v. Again, it only cuts out when i run it too hard and I'm really good at keeping it within its limits. I check the temperature of the amp and cone nearly every time after a long periods of bumping and the amp is not getting any hotter than it normally would. Ive burned up plenty of amps in the past and this one doesn't seem to run any hotter than normal even at a lower than rated imp. It reaches full tilt fine but if i push it beyond that into clipping the amp doesn't like it. I've had a kx 2500.1 in the past run 1 ohm with a less beefier electrical and it ran hot after 30min of abuse but never cut out. I think you're right cochese some 2500.1's like 1 ohm some don't. When i keep it within the limits i can play it for long periods of time and it doesn't get terribly hot. Ive had 1501d's in the past under the same kind of abuse that you could cook eggs off. Those 1501'd would fry a few months down the line after all the abuse.

As far as the dustcap holes that's good to know. I have an extra Fi dustcap laying around (partially the reason i didn't care about messing up this one and played around with ideas). When i get some time in the next week i'll switch them out and get the proper dustcap on.

and yes i had another vw a few years ago that caught fire due to an improperly sealed hole int he firewall that allowed enough rainwater to leak in to cause an electrical fire. shit happens, you learn your lesson, and the flamers rejoice.

LMAO @ the holes in the dustcap. Looks loud but 3ft3 for a BTL15, for burps i could see but not so much for daily. Idk never played around with one before, but i have played w/ sum high power 15s before and never ran below 3.5ft3 daily.
