Okay, guys. My wife and I bought a brand new Hyundai Elantra last week. Yay for us! Now, do we still need to do the big 3? Everything is new, and should work just fine...

No matter what you buy, Cars are designed to work together as a unit. This means the alt was not built to be used to run a small motor home, it was built to adequately run the vehicle it is in. This allows for about a 20 amp grace over what the car will draw itself so whatever you add to it should not pull more than 20 amps continuous without proper upgrades.

Wow. Well, I'm not sure how powerful the alternator is. I'll go read. Meanwhile, I think the factory sound is not bad (don't flame me) but I do want to add a sub. I was thinking about a 10" Alpine X from Meyer Emco. They would do the install. What do you think?

alpine x type with a factory system..... OVERKILL.

If you plan on keeping the stock deck and speakers, add something that will compliment it, not overpower it. Type S with a mono amp or something.

far from overkill.

Type x is a MUCH better sub than the type s.

Even on the lower power it will sound much better than an S.

How about an RSd12d in a smaller sealed box (around 0.8-1.2cf) on about 500-1000w rms of clean power? Scour the for sale section for a mono amp that does that kind of power at 2 ohms. Would sound sweet.
