Brand new amp but not powering all the way

I just bought a hinfonics Brutus 1210 power my 2 12 alpine type rs. I had a previous system that required 8 gauge but this requires 4 so since my battery is in the trunk I just replaced the ground and power wire. At first the amp would not put any power to the subs, but I brought it to a friend of mine that knows car audio and he got it to put some power to the subs but not even with a quarter of what it should be and that's with the gain all the way up. So he thinks it's a defective amp, but since that's not likely to happen and before I go through all that, is there anything that could be causing this? Bad ground? Something with the headunit? Although I haven't touched any settings since the previous professional install. Any help would be appreciated

The previous poster is probably right. You probably have the subsonic too high or the crossover too low. Set the crossover to lpf and about 80hz. Set the subsonic filter at whatever your box is tuned to. If you don't know, 30hz should do the trick. If it's sealed, you can either put the subsonic on around 20-25hz or just turn it off.

If that still doesn't fix it, take a dmm and touch it to your power and ground to check the voltage. With the vehicle on it should be around 14v. If it's much less than 14 and you don't have a little dinky compact car, you probably have a bad connection somewhere. The first place to check is your ground.

I went to Allentown to see a senses fail show once. Where in allentown are you?

And don't treat the gain as a volume knob, you need to set it with a DMM. you could be putting the rca's in the amp's rca-output instead of the amp's rca-input

If a 'professional' from bestbuy or someplace installed your system, they may have adjusted the sub controls on your headunit (if it has sub controls).

man this site is good, thanks for all the responses, but the problem was the setup I had before didn't have RCA cables running to the head unit but still worked? Idk but anyway with the newsetup I needed RCA cables, got em and now I'm bumpin:) thatnks for all the help though
