Also, I am very new to design programs. I am trying WINISD, but some of the options are a bit confusing, such as types of crossovers and how q affects the woofer. Also, what is a good shape graph to aim for if i want powerful lows, but a relatively flat response up to 50hz. I know there is cabin gain and such, so I would imagine a certain shaped curve would be the goal?

the response plot that WinISD gives you is about as realistic as joan rivers face...

that plot graph means nothing, stop looking at it. about the only thing WinISD is good for is determining port length. usually in an SQ application tuning is fairly low, close to 30Hz. cabin gain accounts for alot more than most people realize.

also, ive never tried making XO's in WinISD, and there really isnt need to since we are talking subwoofers. as for Q affecting the driver, like i said, do a search for on of the online calculators, they do a much better job than any of the box building programs.

larger ported boxes are louder than smaller ported boxes, but sealed works the other way around. SQ with a ported box usually occurs with a moderate sized box, and is more dependent on the tuning freq used.
sealed boxes however, work as described--small sealed yields better output and diminshed Sq and a higher F3, larger boxes yields better Sq, less output, and better low end response

Thanks for clearing that up. My box is a tiny bit larger (.1-.2 cu ft) larger than the ideal size for my woofer. Do you think lessining the volume would increase my output noticeably?
