Brahma not really loud

I got my 15" brahma hooked up today. It's seeing about 1k watts from a memphis big belle. The box is 2.25 sealed after displacement. While it is "loud" it's not nearly what I expected. I had a 15" xxx sealed and this isn't even close. Am I just mistaken about the brahma? It's reaching full excursion so I know it's not being underpowered. Is it not that "loud" of a sub?

Brahma Extreme is virtually identical to an RE XXX, iirc.

Yes a XXX has a bit more displacement potential, but not much (28mm vs 32mm)... I doubt that difference would make such an audible change. Performance between a Brahma and an old XXX were very comparable, you should not be seeing a night and day difference between the two unless something else has changed. Is the enclosure the same alignment as the XXX had? Similar power? Same vehicle? Same enclosure placement? Etc...

Nice sub, dont get disappointed and sell it off right away. You'll be sorry later if you do. Its a high quality piece, it should perform like one, unless its set up wrong.

Oh, and if you are confident you are getting plenty of cone excursion, but output is lacking, try reversing the phase of the sub to see if that improves peceived output. I bet it will help.

I was about to suggest flipping the phase.

Years ago, I had a B15 in a bad quality ported box tuned to ~30hz, and it put up 140.5dBs in the trunk of my camry.

More than loud enough for me.

Strange, it should be pretty loud off a big belle amp. Something is not right. What about the box? Maybe it is a leaky box?

even so, the b15's always got rave reviews about being pretty efficient on anything equal or greater than 1kw.

Interesting discovery... not sure if it's relevant... The sub has output even when the sub rca is not connected. As long as an rca for a the front or rear speakers is connected the sub gets power. WTF is going on?
