bought a dmm today finally...

well i got a decent one from walmart for 20 bucks and i looked up and seen to have 400 watts i should be around 40volts at 4ohms well i hooked it up and tested it and it stayed around 40 but never stayed it always bounced around so what do i do set the gains so it wont go above 40 on any note or what

As long as the tone is in the playing range of the amplifier it doesnt matter. 50 would be just fine.

tone will not matter because the speakers should be unplugged while testing anyways! Pick a tone, do the math and meter it!
