Trying to choose between Boston Acoustics Pro50 SE or JL Audio C3-525 for my 99 buick. I will power them with 75W RMS each. The Bostons can be had from eBay for about $175 and and the JL's are a bit over $300.

Anybody here have experience with either one?

Thanks

I have the boston acoustic sr50's and the tweets are **** good but the mids are a little lacking. I should have gone with a 6.5. You will probably need to use the 125hz hi pass filter as I do because otherwise the mids really cant take much before they start distorting. If you set the hpf to 125 and use a sub though it sounds pretty **** good!

I dont care for the JL C3s. The C5s are OK but there are much better in there price range from Focal, Hertz, Rainbow, and Morel
this! the C3s were not impressive at all IMO. The C5s are great sounding speakers but i wouldnt pay that much for em.

Boston Acoustics speakers always impress me though especially for the prices.

Go listen to some if you can, I listened to the jl and boston and alpine all in the same room and I didn't like any of the jl stuff as far as componets. But its all about personal taste.

The Pro50s lack in midbass also but they are a good sounding set. They won't take the power the old Pro series would.. I think they basically renamed those to the Z-series. If you like a bright detailed tweeter you should like the Bostons. If you want something a little more laid back and smoother I would check out the Morels.

I love my Bostons, and they have come down in prices lately too. i never liked the JL's I had, I am not sure why, I could never pinpoint it, but it always seemed like something was missing. ^^^And they are right, the Bostons will lack some on the lower octaves, but can be helped a whole lot by sealing the doors REALLY good. I have some subs, so I could still cross them at 70 Hz and just let the subs catch the real low stuff. I have never heard the Morels, but lately I have been hearing great things about them, especially the price point. I may change over, I am just waiting to hear a pair in person first. The funnest part of getting new stuff, people letting me sit in their rides and demo their stuff!!

Do you have an EQ?

The Boston speakers have 1 frequency that has a big peak and needs to be toned down, otherwise they can sound a little bright/harsh to some people. It's in the mid, not the tweeter, and once that's toned down a bit those speakers are phenomenal and sound as good as some $1000 components. The tweets are crossed over around 3.2k, so mess with your EQ below that freq.
