Bored A'F

Dude, my first system was two sets of Bazooka coax (6.5 and 6x9) and an Aiwa deck. In a Ford Probe. Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking.

But that's not my first real experience...

When I got into it for real, I was living in South Carolina and had a 99 Jetta. I put an Alpine 5-channel in there with an Alpine deck, Alpine S-type coax in the front and Infinity reference coax on the rear deck with a Reference 12" sub in a prefab sealed box. Safe to say the sub didn't last long and swapped that for a 12w3, the amp for a 300/4 and 500/1, and the speakers for TR components in the front and JBL GTO comps on the rear deck.

Safe to say I caught the upgrade bug, but my Jetta was starting to die off, so I traded that car for a 2004 Saturn Ion Redline and swapped my system over minus the HU. Deadened all the doors and trunk, replaced the front comps with Rainbow SLC comps and rear deck with Rainbow coax.

Now I own a 2006 Passat and have only managed to get to replacing the HU after more than 6 years of ownership. But the bug has bit again so we'll see what happens now.

Still am a huge n00b.

Started with a single planet audio 12" that I found in the garage in a box.

The wiring job was AN ABSOLUTE mess. I can't believe fires weren't started. Ran a capacitor, wiring, and amp all from wal-mart. Such a fail

Lol I think your first build has to be chock full of mistakes. As long as you don't burn your car down you can fix it and move on. I almost wired both 12v remote wires from the HU harness and factory adapter to each other which would have been a $650 fail.

Not my first setup but the first time I had bass in my car or even heard subs before was a pair of RF P1 12's in a Rockford manufacture vented box (box looked awesome IMO). My uncle lended me the subs and an amp (RF 300.1? I think) to use for a couple days as I was considering purchasing them and wanted to try them out first. I was driving around like king sh1t in my sunfire with that setup. It wasnt very loud to my ears but I could feel it in the seats and I loved it. I ended up taking it over to my buddies house to show him and he sh1t on me with a pair of explode 12's sealed in a cutlass. I thought his 12's were the best thing around lol.

Since then I've gone on to own CVR 12's, CVX 12's, W7 13, HCCA 12's (currently).

Meh no need to have a size competition. What mistakes were you making (directed at fronty)?
size should always be relevant to your personal goals, and the space you have.

running orion reds back in the day and wondering why my alt kept melting every 3 months or so in my 86 thunderbird
LOL i did that too. Burned up my alternator in 1 year. I was so dumb

Anyone ever smoke their car out from burning coils?

My whole eclipse filled up with smoke after I destroyed my W7. Sh1t stinks and the smell takes forever to go away.

I didn't mean size of your enclosure...

And the electrical in those 80s Tbirds was a nightmare. I'm surprised those things didn't ignite from daily driving on stock systems.

Thank God, no. I got screamed at enough when I smoked cigarettes in the car and my wife could smell it two days later. Don't want to know what she'd say about burnt coils...

That God I didn't. And it's a surprise. Because I know my amps were clipping HARD. I had the gain jacked up and thought it was a volume knob.
