Boomintahoe

Meet the new boomin tahoe.
Just bought me a older 1997 chevy tahoe with a 5.7l engine..

I love the old square bodies and plan to make a nice no wall system soon enough.

Too bad it still uses gasoline!!

Still ******* on the teat of BIG OIL, eh? ;-)
NOT ME BUDDY!! Zero gasoline used, most times!

News flash idiot,

Your car runs on electricity, but the majority of the electricity in the US is produced by burning fossil fuels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Yes, right now. BUT electricity can also be generated many other ways, gasoline NOT AT ALL!

In 200 years there will be hardly any gasoline powered personal autos on the roads because gasoline will be TOO EXPENSIVE!!

Yes, right now you're still an idiot. Your car uses fossil fuels like any other vehicle on the road.

Will you be alive in 200 years to drive your leaf around? No. Right now you're driving around a car statistically 66% powered by fossil fuels and then claim you're "saving the planet" because you're not burning gasoline.

You are a hippie idiot. If you had a solar panel roof on your house that charged your car, I'd say "Yeah, ok. You're saving the planet"

Charging batteries to use as mobile power sources is also inefficient. Factoring in efficiency of everything, you might actually be using MORE fossil fuels to get from point A to point B than a gasoline vehicle.

Step 1: Coal is mined and transported to the power plant. (by petroleum powered diesel equipment)

Step 2: Coal is burned and steam from boiled water is used to run a turbine that produces electricity. "...the current average global efficiency rate of coal-fired power plants from 33% to 40%"

Step 3: electricity is stepped up through a transformer to a higher voltage, sent through lines, and gets to your house (lots of energy is lost)

Step 4: you charge your car once AC is converted to DC, which is not NEARLY 100% efficient.

Electricity's efficiency? First, I am an Electrical Engineer so I know more about electricity that you probably ever will.

And:

A heat engine (which every internal combustion engine is!) has a maximum theoretical efficiency defined by the Carnot heat engine model which by thermodynamics is always less than 100% and typically much MUCH lower. And cars and truck are not powered by idealized theoretical heat engine models, they are powered by big ugly gasoline drinking inefficient actual realizations of a heat engine.

Wikipedia has a great page on the internal combustion engine, and in particular relating to it's efficiency (or lack thereof):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine#Energy_efficiency

Wherein Wikipedia says "Even when aided with turbochargers and stock efficiency aids, most engines retain an average efficiency of about 18%-20%." So that means out of $100 you put in your gas tank, most is already gone and wasted R/T inherent inefficiency so we have about $20 worth to work with to provide real usable work.

Now lets look at the relative weights between vehicle and passenger. I weigh about 180lbs, and my 1994 Dodge Caravan weighs about 3900lbs:

http://answers.bloglines.com/Car/how_much_does_a_dodge_caravan_weigh

So to make calculation easy lets say I weigh 200lbs and my Caravan weights 4000lbs. A close estimate. 4000/200 = 20, or my Caravan weighs 20 times as much as I do! Or it's gonna take 20 times the energy to push my Caravan around as it will take to push ME around!!

1/20 of $20 is ONE DOLLAR!! One dollar out of my $100 spent on gasoline goes to pushing ME around!! That's 1%!! And while I'm a little overweight and my Caravan's not among the heaviest vehicles out there, you should be able to clearly see that no one in any internal combustion powered vehicle is gonna get much better than 1% or so efficiency out of their DOLLARS SPENT ON GASOLINE!!

I have no doubt in my mind you will die a virgin. Hopefully when you leaf catches fire with you in it.
