Boom vs SQ

I am currently at work right now having my system installed, (very anxious time for any audiophile). I was wondering what you guys think about my system and weather or not it will have enough boom/sq.. I just basically want some feedback on my system, I know you guys have been at this a bit longer then I..

2001 Saturn SC 2

4AWG power/GND wire

800*1 @ 2Ohm stable AMP (Audiobahn a8000t)

12" 700w RMS 4OhmDVC (Audiobahn aw1200q)

MP3/CD player headunit (kenwood kdc-mp819)

2 6.5" Rockford Fosgate door speakers 50rms 100wmax

Sealed Box

Opinions/Concearns?

it should have boom but no sq. audiobahn and sound quality don't go together. audiobahn though does have good spl. why did you get a sealed box? it depends too on the install if it will sound good or not.

My install was done by a very reputible company, many people recommended them and not a person that i know has a complaint about them. btw it's auto sound lab.

If you are listeningg to rap, you will lose true boom/wave/extended bass potential. Definately want a vented/ported box for the full bass extention (boom).

It's also makes sense to tune the box to 20Hz or lower, full frequency coverage.

you definately want a ported box because audiobahn is pretty much an spl sub. is it a prefab box or custom built box?

I can say out of experience that sub is going to feel a lot more at home in a ported box. Most Audiobahn's subs are pretty particualr about what box they're in to get them to function properly. For future reference though, Audiobahn amps are overpriced slabs of chrome, go w/ hifonics next time.

Thanx so far for the input, it's actually a *eek* prefab.. but only cause after purchasing my system i had like $30 in the bank.. i'm sure places sell prefab ported boxes but what do you guys think, will they actually know the hz in which they are tuned to? and the lower the relatively better right? like 50hz will be quite loud but also quite distorted? I know the audiobahn is a power house but the SQ wont be affected by getting a ported? i figured a sealed would be a better choice for sq since audiobahn are known for power i wasn't too worried..

Certain subs are "best suited" for sealed..

Certain subs are "best suited" for ported.

I don't know the specs offhand for the Q's, but I always believed they were built for maximum efficiency... seems to be the customer base they are trying to market to are kids looking for some boom in the high school parking lot...

Particularly the Q's, which I know quite a few SPL competitors have had luck with..

(that very statement alone, essentially fundamentally, doesn't say good things about their sound quality, in terms of accurate reproduction)

I'm assuming the Qes is quite high... maximizing motor strength.

As such, Qts will be quite high.

Since efficiency is a design priority, I'd also assume these things have an Fs closer to 30hz (if not higher) than it is closer to 20hz...

What does this mean to you?

This would give the sub a very high Efficiency Bandwidth Product (EBP), and a low Qts...

Both of which point to a "ported box type subwoofer".

A ported box woofer is stronger, generally has a higher Fs...

It can better contend with the additional forces inside the ported enclosure (the air moving in the port carries momentum, countering the motion of the subwoofer, essentially).

In a sealed enclosure however, a sub such as this may result in an overdamped, lifeless, almost boring quality to it... even though efficiency is high, theoretically.

I'll agree with those who generalize that "sealed enclosures are theoretically more ideal for sound quality applications"...

...but it's important to utilize a driver that is meant for use in a sealed enclosure to realize the benefits. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You may wish to consider:

1) purchasing a different subwoofer.. or planning it as a future upgrade.

2) purchasing a different enclosure.

And please, by all means, do verify (someone?) that this woofer does have a relatively low Qts (lower than about 0.45), and a relatively high Fs (close to 30hz, if not higher)... because I don't have it's specs handy.

My words really are relative to those numbers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
