Anyone ever do a install in a boat with like subs amp HU speakers? any tips or ideas? my dad wants me to hook him up with a killer sound system when we get the new boat . we practically live on the river

yep, done a lot of em'.

one thing I recommend to all boat owners........... Plan for a bigger system than you might do in a car. If you really want to hear it over the sounds of the motor, the water, and the wind. It needs to be a pretty big system. Know what I mean?

Second, don't buy "marine speakers" they're more expensive than they're worth. Any good poly-coned speaker should do just fine. It's not like they're ever gonna get that wet.

Third, don't give the excuse, "It's just my boat, I don't wanna put anything fancy in there." That doesn't make any sense. You can afford to buy a 25,000 + dollar toy that you only use 4-5 months out of the year? But you won't spend an extra $500 -$1000 to put a nice stereo in it? Lame

Fourth, boats are perfect candidates for security systems (though probably not something you should do yourself". There is probably a lot of expensive equipment in there and you probably just park it on the side of the house right?

I love doing boat installs! If you need any more specific help PM me

okie dokie....yea it will be going next to the house. so stay away from marine speakers and cjjackson is gay? thanks

You're just plain stupid if you don't use marine speakers... what if you drop your beer on them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

you can drop a beer on any speaker w/a plastic cone and it'll be fine.

But, I'm glad to see you know the rules...... No boating without beer!

Great, don't use marine speakers because they might not get wet. Thinking of the place that it is mounted in and the close proximity to water + hot and cold = moisture. So I guess it doesn't make any sense to buy a speaker that is 100% waterproof on the front and back. Perhaps we didn't think that moisture can affect a speaker from the back as well. Rust out the voice coils etc.... So there is a difference between a marine speaker that is moisture resistant and waterproof. Choose the waterproof version. This problem is compounded for us here on the West Coast, saltwater in particular eats away and the standard stamped steel basket of the moisture resistant speakers inside of one year. A good speaker to look at is the Eclipse waterproof marine speaker and the MB Quart Nautic line as well. There is much more to a true marine speaker than a white grill and stainless screws.

agreed. But this guys in Iowa. No saltwater and the boat is probably stored 8 months out of the year.

IMHO, marine speakers are overrated that's all.
