blown tweeters

I went into my local audio shop and he said that the cheapest tweeters that he could get me would cost me at least $100. He mainly deals with MB Quart, so I am assuming thats what he meant for the $100. I decided I would look around on onlinecarstereo.com because there has to be something better for the price.

I am keeping the stock components, just replacing the tweeters. I am using the stock monsoon amp which came with the car. I think it will put out maybe 20-35 watts RMS. This would mean that the sensitivity is the most important thing to look at right? I know am not giving too much power, but I do not have the money right now to upgrade. Could you guys give me some suggestions of tweeters that are below $100? Is a crossover really worth having on the tweeters alone?

THanks

i checked out parts express and found some ma audiohttp://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=267-153 and was wondering if anyone has any experience with these? I do not want anything that is too bright sounding.

About madisound, i was absolutely lost on that site. It has just way too much information in way to many spots for me. Maybe i am just stupid and not looking in the right places.

Thanks

Sensativity won't be a huge issue, if your running 30 watts continously to a tweeter, well your either deaf or you'll soon become so. Since theirs no way to know what your crossover settings on the amp are, your best bet is to find something that can be crossed over fairly low, that way you'll be safe no matter what the crossover frequency is.

OK maybe im not running 30 watts continuous because from what t3mpest says 30 watts would be loud for that. i just checked my car and the tweeter says max rec. power 15 watts. My best guess would be that the amp is giving around 15 rms? The system is a 218 watt monsoon, so i just assumed that the tweeters would get about 20-30. I guess i was wrong.

Well as little as just a few watts can cause hearing damage. But do your tweeters always play to thier potential? No. Your amp is fine. You need to worry about properly crossing them over so that they are not forced to play frequiencies they're not capable of. I had 150w on my tweeters for a while and there was no fire and I can still hear just fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Be sure to check impedance to determine that you are not overdriving that amp and changing your crossover frequencies.
That is a good point you make. I forgot all about how they have to be the same impedence. I think they are 2 ohm, but not entirely sure.
