Blown Sub?

My buddy has an MTX Thunder 8000

There isnt a knock, and no scraping when i push on the cone or anything

He says it only works at high volumes, i hooked it up before even knowing that and nothing happened (hooked it up to my amp)

It appears the coating around the tinsel lead melted off on part of the positive lead, so idk if that could have caused something

Here's a pic of the lead, sory for the grainy image, its off my blackberry

He had it getting around 400 watts from an infinity reference 1600a i believe

Also, would that amp kill my sub if i bought it?

I have an infinity kappa 102.7- 300 watt rms dvc

that amp does 600 at 2 ohms, so it would be getting double power but i'd set gains modestly

well yeah, but i was wondering if anyone knew if its actually blown or fixable from the way things sound

also if its that tinsel that ****ed the sub up

u could put solder on the leads. i had a sub stop moving took it out and the tinsel was a little burned. but it was only near the base of the terminal slightly. its played for a good half year and still going now. i definitely didn't have it set up that correct thou when it happened(fixed that problem now thou). at least u could give it a shot =/
