blown sub ???????????????

can over heating a sub blow it up. i had a 12" type r on 1000 rms and it got real smelly and warm. wondering if playin it to long caused to blow the sub up. cause now it sounds like its blown...

1000 watts RMS to a type R is bad they handle 500 rms

I've seen people put about 800WRMS to them, and they played fine. Were you clipping the signal? How were the gains set? What amp are you using?

type r's will handle 1000 fine as long as its clean power and its not clipping

yes, although 1kw isn't usually too much for an R

over-heating a sub is known as pushing it past its thermal handling capabilities, and rms ratings are given to subs to keep owners from blowing them up by sending them too much power.

yeah if u had the gains jacked up to clip it, 1000 would easily kill a type-r

but it would take it like a champ if it was clean power

yup still playin...... but it farts a little and sounds like its done...it smelled quite a bit after,when i was playin for like 30 min. gains are set and it was clean power

you probably had the gains cranked too high. ive had a R 12 on a rated 2000 watts for weeks now with no problems

after you heat the vc up they let out a gas and it will start to rub on the motor so then the vc will drag .

IM sure his coil is unwound or pretty close, how did you set your gains since you said it was clean etc...what amp? What coil config? What size box?

2ohms and sealed 1.5. but i just switched to ported and now i here the sub making the noise
