Blown crossovers or faulty amp?

Speakers were working fine for several months. One night, my car blew a head gasket, started overheating and all of them were crackling and putting out harsh noise. Now the right side speakers crackle badly and the left side put out nothing.

The filament in the crossover bulb is still fine and nothing looks shorted. Also plugged in an mp3 player directly to my amp and I have the same problem, so it is not my audio source. Channels are bridged on my amp, because this is a 4 speaker, 2-way system. I had gains set about halfway.

Any ideas on what is wrong or what I should be looking for?

It looks like it is the amp... Today I had nothing connected, turned on the car and the left side speakers decided to start working again - by screaming at me with a high pitched EEEEE! The amp light is now blinking, which a few someones seem to indicate is a sign it's toast.

So who wants to recommend a good 4 channel amp for my setup that won't break the bank and isn't going to die on me in 10-12 months?

Bah, I replaced the amp and they sound like Rice Crispies! Wth?

They sound fine when I play the radio through my stock headunit. The headunit bypasses my carputer and plugs straight into the aux input on the amp. Does this sound like crossovers?
