Blown BTL

I've had my BTL for around 10 months and it is now dead off of a zx2500.1. It stopped working at low volume too. It is in a properly sized, properly tuned box with no bass boost, subsonic filter on, gain 1/2 way up. I contacted fi but got a quick email response back saying they are taking a high volume of emails and will be slow to respond. Wondering if there is any other way to contact them. And does anyone know if there is some kind of warranty they provide or am I just out of luck?

Ill upload one but the coils are not burnt at all. Small tears in spider, smells horrible, just dont understand why all of the sudden it would go like that, especially running it correctly.

What kind of electrical? Are the tensiles visible and are they intact?

Its possible that the coils overheated and failed but dont really look that discolored.

Also what are the box specs? that amp's ssf is non variable so it's just on and off at 25Hz. If you're box is tuned any higher than 30Hz i'd say it played too low and unloaded.

You're probably not going to get a warranty fix, but the options are not outrageously expensive. I dont recall Fi's price but it's around 120-130 iirc. TeamPSI sells recone kits for around 100 and 20 for a glue kit. Do some reasearch and carefully recone that ****er yourself. Or find someone local who has done recone on big woofers and tip them.

old style btl then? woven or non woven leads? If it's the older w/out woven leads, did you look at them? They're notorious for breaking/wearing through the spiders.

And there's no warranty on btl's...you're pretty out of luck. Just buy a recone, they're 120 on the Fi website.

It is a new style BTL and the tinsel leads are woven and totally intact. There are 4 small rips (about 1/4") at 12, 3, 6, and 9 oclock. The box is tuned to 33hz. Its just weird to me that it went at like vol 10 out of 25. Oh well time for something else.

i had a box at 33hz once off a kx 2500.1 (same amp) and with the 25hz ssf i still was bottom out on the lows badly. ****ed up my 4hp to the point of recone. you really wont know for sure until you rip the old one out. it could have easily been damaged from the previous heavy bassing and then fail at low volume.

i love those kicker amps, for about 400 shipped you ussually cant find better, but that ssf is a pain in the ***.

I had rips like that in an old 18" i had. It was from over excursion though fooo shooo. At least for me it was the problem. I was young and dumb //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif haha

18" BTL Recone was $120 Shipped last time I ordered one.

Chock another sub death up to over excursion. Fi Is somewhat hard to get ahold of. Maybe throw a post up at SSA also. Dave (TeamPSI) is also a very good guy.
