Black Headunits with amber lighting

I've been researching for DAYS and DAYS trying to find some headunits that look stock and fit in my interior. These units NEED to have amber lighting, as much black as possible, and should have a faceplate that doesn't stick out very much at all.

Thus far, I have come up with the following that I can still readily get:

1) JVC KD-AR5000/5500

2) Any Nakamichi HU - I have a CD300 right now and it sucks, everything else is way out of my price range

3) Clarion DXZ665MP

There are a ton of other ones that are kinda hard to get my hands on, like the Blaupunkt RDM-126. I am using external amplification, so RCAs matter, while internal amplification does not.

Any other suggestions? This is how my stock interior looks:

You can see my CD-300 in the dash.

What about a DRZ9255? I got one for sale, good hu. Zinc faceplate so it wouldn't stand out too much, plus it just looks high quality if anything.. not all colourful and standout-ish.

Buy yourself an 800PRS (when it comes out) and change the color to amber yourself. There's a guy on DIYMA that has an 880PRS and a Beamer and changed his to the exact amber color with film, took him like an hour tops. I'm sure you could even contact him and have him do it for you. Order the unit, have it sent to his house with the film, and then he can ship it to you.

Check it out: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29365&highlight=880

Page 5 has a pic of the entire process done, all white turned to red.

Looks very good IMO. He even has a DIY if you can do it yourself.

I cant find a picture of the drz powered on, what color is it anyway?

Im in the same boat, thinking of either running my Carpc through decent HU with built in Xovers, but went thru all the trouble of "redding out" all my dash lights to match my gauges, yes gauges are functional for tracking, its an EVO IX

^^ Very nice!! Evo IX. Very nice car.

As for the DRZ9255, it would definitely fit in terms of flushness and colour in the car, but the colour will not match. It lights up white, not amber.

As for the Clarion DXZ665MP, I thought it was my top choic but the screen doesn't change colour.

The Clarion Clarion DXZ745MP or Clarion DXZ845MC would both work but I think they stick out of the dash too much.

See how hard this is!? I have really high standards for this kinda stuff! I would also prefer not to have to take a HU apart. I've already done it so many times with this Nakamichi that I don't want to anymore.

I was searching today and found the cd7200 by eclipse not only has 6 color choices but usb connection and a slew of other lusty features that may just make me want it more than I do the drz9255

and its black man!

I think its exactly what both us are looking for, expensive though, but if i dont drive the EVO everyday for a few weeks I can probly save up the money ( 100 octane out here is 6.25gallon and i probably get 12 miles to the gallon, lol )

I think this things worth the money.

It would look like that, during the day but with the orange and red, or all red depending on what illumination you chose.

Things I HATED about my CD7100 (had two with the same problems too).

1: The face quality and feel was terrible.

2: The way the face opens caused me to have to hack up my dash kit for it to fit properly causing a huge gap if I wanted to put another HU in its place. I've heard of a buch of other people that have had this problem as well.

3: The menu's are terrible.

4: The usb made all sorts of noises in frequencies up high that your tweeters would pick up, like a snapping sound.

5: The output was always inconsistent, on the highway I would have to turn it up to 65/70 for it to be consistently loud, whereas with my current 9887 and old 880prs and 860mp I have never had an issue with output.

6: The single dial to operate everything, it's near impossible to change tracks or do anything productive while driving with that big *** single knob/switch.

The cd7200 LOOKS to remain the same in those respects.

Ha i just read that in the other thread from you. does make me a bit concerned.

what about using ur stock deck with a LOC
Yeah, I could do that, except I've already sold my stock tape deck and CD changer. If I want the OEM indash CD deck, it would be $300 to my door, + another 80 for an audiocontrol LC6 or something liek that.

So getting an aftermarket HU is my best bet right now.

nismos14, I agree that the alpine could work, but there's too much non-black stuff on it for me, along with a screen that doesn't go amber. btw, it's a Sony DSC-F717 camera.
