Birthday present for bro: MAW15 or 2x CVR12

So this is a birthday present for my bro. I'm trying to be both wise but thrifty at the same time here.

Will prolly buy either a Cadence, Hifonics or Crunch amp in the 600-800 RMS range. Not a huge project, but still something to turn music into a physical experience in the car.

In this case, it will be going in his pickup. SPL > SQ in terms of importance, box has plenty of room and will be ported. Two MAW15s not applicable due to cost, MAW18 not applicable due to size. Mach5 SPL sub not applicable due to cost.

Concepts? I have read every thread on both on this forum, including those that compare them. However, most people buying the MAW seem to be using it sealed + SQ. I hear the CVRs sound like shit but can get loud ported (as expected).

I have only heard my two Type R's and a different friend's L7's so I am not familiar with either of these subs.

For SPL, I'd go with 2 Kickers over 1 MAW.

whats wrong the the MJ18? is it the woofer size or box size thats problematic? because it can do a **** small box sealed...

I think the mach 5 would be better for both spl and sq.

however, if you could find two 12 type r's in the classifieds, I think that would be best!!!

^^^Agreed, look for some cheap used (in original box since they'd be a gift) Alpine Type-R 12s. You probably won't be able to find them for less than $200 though, and if that is too much look for a single 15" Type-R. Good budget SPLish subs that don't need a lot of power.
