Bigrick31's 04 Sliverado Project Log

So here is how the hydroboost conversion goes.

here are most of the parts minus the hoses and powersteering pump. we have the hydro boost the master cylinder and a new break pedal

037.jpg

new break pedal vs old break pedal you can see that one has a pin higher than the other this is because the hydrobooster will sit higher than the stock vacuum booster

had to notch the hole where the booster comes through because like i said before the booster sits higher now. and i also had to add another hole because the one bolt on the hydrobooster is in a different location thatn the stock booster

put on the master cylinder. make sure when using a new break booster to let break fluid soak in for a while i couldnt get mine to bench bleed properly i left fluid in overnight and in the morning it all leaked out on the floor. I beleive this is because the o rings inde the master cylinder are dry when you buy a new one and they need to soak up fluid to work properly.

here are the 3 lines you will need for the hydroboost. basicly what you do is intercept the line that goes from the rack and pinion to the power steering pump. so now you go from rack and pinion to hydro boost then from the power steering pump to hydroboost then a return lin from the hydroboost to the power steering pump.

a shot of how the pwersteering pump used to be hooked up

044.jpg

here you see all the lines going to the hydroboost i found it rather difficult to install the hoses on the powersteering pump with the pump in so i would recomend putting your hoses on the rack and pinion and powersteering pump before you install the pump. then run them to the booster to make it easier on yourself.

everette welded up my radiator for me and made new mounting brackets

new radiator hoses installed

here i bypassed a line that went to my stock overflow

i had to add a fitting into my radiator for my vent hose to hook into. i just bought a ribbed fitting and tapped a hole into the radiator then put thread locker on the fitting and installed it.

this is part of a kit made by prestone to flush and fill your radiator you put it inline with a hose going from your firewall to your engine block that receives engine coolant.

i was out cruisin around making sure nothing else would go wrong. i picked up some oil and a filter went back to the house to change the oil. then after that my and my girl hopped in for a cruise well about 15 min into the cruise the truck shut off or went into accessory mode and i lost my breaks. then i turned the truck back on to get it into a gas station we happened to be on the corner of when smoke (not steam) started pouring out of everywhere i lost my breaks again and something popped. then the truck made an awefull grinding noise and just died. i got out and the driver side of the engine bay was on fire i grabbed a fire extinguisher from the gas station and put it out. now im waiting for a tow truck. i dont know what happend nor do i have any suspisions i doubt it was electrical as my interior lights all work and headlights.

Hell ya.Glad you showed us the update pics.

How lon till you decide to make it lay body?
well once i save up some cash im gunna have my buddy seth do a stock floor body drop and well probably have to do a little channeling to it because im body dropping it 5". oh and ill get that dash to ya asap! its been hectic trying to get the thing ready for the show then i had issues with it overheating then there was the fire. so now its parked and ill get working on it soon enough but now i have time to send you the whole dash.

Eck, some sick looking burn damage, I hope oyu get it all figured out. Nothing's worse than a problem when you have no idea what's causing it.

Best of luck, I love watching updates on this project!

Rick, any ideas on what started the fire?
a break line broke somehow. maybe it was kinked or something hit it at some point i really have no idea. but the brake fluid was kitting the exhaust manifolds and then caught fire after catching fire it melted a few electrical wires to the brake and fuel lines on the frame along with my valve wires which are all shorting out now. my truck only goes down i cant lift it using the valves. looks like i need to order a bunch of wire and heat shrink.

awesome work log! Sorry to read about the setback but can't wait until you kick this back in work mode again. Hats off to you for putting in the work to reap the fruits of your labor. Keep your head up!
