Big Car Sub in My House, Need DC Power

So, I took my old sub and amp out of my car, as they are getting replaced. It is a 1200w Hifonics and a 1500 watt Power Acoustik amp, and I figured, why not put it in my house? So now I am looking for a (relatively) cheap power solution. I need something that can supply my sub with at least 750w, preferably over 1000w, without breaking the bank. Any ideas?

Are you using a ported box? You should and enclosures for home are waaay bigger(like 2-3times bigger) then for car audio for flat response and tuned lower(like 18hz).

With the larger box you wont be able to put as much power to it as it will bottom out. A solid 500w plate amp should be plenty in the right enclosure and it will shake your house

If he's going to go through the trouble of building a new custom enclosure and buying a new amp he might as well buy a nicer sub...

That was exactly what I was thinking. Plus, like I said, I don't want to spend that much money, I am just looking to get a power supply. Also, looking into PC power supplies, I can get about 800w peak for just over $100. Do you guys think that is a good deal?

It would be cool if you went for it and told us how it turns out. I would certainly be interested in your results.

adio, I actually have the 850w version of that PC power supply you posted, it has 70 amps. Would it be worth just using that one? I would also just replace the one in my computer with one that has more headroom for my future PC endeavors.

Unless your running SLI or X-fire with some beefy cards I doubt your comp needs that large of PSU, but with the new power hungry cards its possible. Most my psu pulls from the wall is 400watts(Q9650@4.5Ghz but only single 4850 card, OC'd ofcourse)

But sure try it out and see, should be fine, just watch how far you turn it up, like keep an eye on the voltage so it doesnt drop too much, otherwise you'll have a dead amp and psu.

Prob could wire a batt in between to give some cushion

ATM, my PC has an i7 930 OC'ed at 3.8, with a single GTX 470, but I plan on going a bit higher on my OC, install water cooling, and probably another 470, so I could use the headroom on my power supply. My only problem is cutting open a $130 power supply.
