so i am going to do the big 3. battery ground is already 2/0. the wire from alternator looks like 8 guage. and my question is, how important is the strap from the engine to the chassis? i looked and i dont see one, and when i replaced the engine i dont remember seeing one. should i make one? and what about the alternator negative? you dont need to upgrade that?

my alternator is grounded on my exhaust manifold
Your alternator is grounded where it mounts also, that is usually to the engine. The engine is mounted to the frame/car with mounts that have a rubber insulating system. The jumper gives the alternator case a direct connection to the car itself.

so i need to upgrade the one from the alt. to the manifold? the way i understood is that a wire needs to go from the engine to the chassis.

Engine block to chasis, leave to original in place also. Put mine on the front drivers corner of the block and went to frame, piece is about 1 foot long total.

alright, but im kinda curious. what would the symptoms be since there isnt already one? ive been driven around and everything, what is the purpose of that particular ground?

There is one there, somewhere, the OEM is usually a flat braided type that runs to the firewall from the top or side of the engine. All you are doing is creating a less resistive path for current to flow by upgrading this OEM wire.

If theres not one , you would have very low current flow from the alternator, way below its rating.

The braided piece of junk in the pic.
