big 3 help on 04 dodge ram

I am thinking of getting a ho alt for my dodge ram 04 and I realized that the power wire running from the alternator runs to the fuse box and then the battery. The fuse in the fuse box is only like 120 or 140 amps id imagine, if that. How did you get around this? could you just take the fuse out of the fuse box and run the alt wire straight to the positive terminal on the battery?

yes you could by pass it. i dont see why that would cause too much of a problem. and its usually a good idea to leave all of the factory wires in place when you do a big 3 just so you are sure that you dont disconnect anything that runs other components in your vehicle

I had a 04 ram and installed a HO alt, I used a isolator to leave all of the car systems completely seprate from the systems

i looked at your alt pics but that doesnt help too much. Could I just run 1/0 straight from the alt to the battery and still have the stock wiring going through the fuse box or would the fuse blow?

it wont blow the fuse because you are routing power away from it. now im not sure if there are any dummy lights hooked up in that area that sense if the amps are too low going through there which may cause problems in the computer system of the truck.

Not sure about your vehicle specfically but I ran new wire directly from the alt to the batt pos. No problems I know a few others who have done this as well.

did your car have a seperate fuse for the alternator as well?

Yes it has a 120A fuse on the jumper leading to the pos battery post.

Just run a 0ga right from alt to battery. Thats what I did in a Ram that Im working on. Heres pics of the engine bay.

Yes I have an 04 Ram 1500 and just bypass the fuse box and go from alt pos. to battery.
