Big 3 - 1. Shock? 2. Sandpapering

Getting ready to do the Big 3. I've found all my connection points and I've got my material.

1. Is it possible to get shocked doing this? If yes, how is that prevented?

2. One of connection points is a bolt on the chasis where Subaru already has grounded a thin wire on its own - Battery negative to chasis. I'm guessing I don't need to sandpaper that area? Subaru obviously thinks that spot is prepared.

1. Yes, prevent it? ummm disconnect the battery?

2. well after you uncover the bolt and see the metal...if you can see bare metal your fine, but if there is paint under there sand it off.

make sure the battery is disconnected at all times and don't hook it back up till every wire is run. as for the ground. sand it anways just to make sure it's clean. car manufactors aren't as meticulous as we are in making sure we have good grounds and good electrical systems. on my car they didn't scrape paint and used a painted bolt, so manufactors do not clean grounding spots well

My Integra had it's stock ground touching paint, I had to sand it away. I also cleaned the screw and washer since they were pretty dirty, and yeah, disconnect the battery until you are done, then attach the positive back up, and lastly the negative.

always disconnect the battery of your car when doing any kind of electrical work for the saftey of the electroics in your car. as far as getting shocked, you'll be ok. 12V isnt enough to do anything to you. ive touched the negative and positive of car batteries many times and i couldnt feel anything.

Indeed, if you have have any experience wiring you will know that that it is possible (not recommended, for obvious reasons) to wire hot 120 VAC without getting shocked. 12V wont shock you.

Voltage doesnt kill you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif Amperage does...You can get 12V at a low amperage and it wouldnt even phase you...but get 12V at a high amperage and it could kill you...eve wonder why people survive a shock from a 10000 volt stun gun...becasue of the little ammount of amperage that is supplied. ELECTRICITY is DANGEROUS

Amperage doesn't kill you... Stupidity does, especially around electricity...

Talk about 1/2 the information. you can die from a 1.5v charge if there are 20,000 AA batteries hooked together. It's called current.

Correct, you can touch + and - terminals on a battery with no ill effects; However try getting in between a spark from the battery to the cable. Aint gonna be pretty.

20,000 batteries isnt going to give you 1.5V. it would be a hell of alot higher. i am kind of curious to know what happens when you get in from of the spark between the cable and the battery. im not really sure it will do anything.
