best amp for 400x2 or 200x4

Used on the forums for ~250. I used to have one, it was a beast.

You want to power 2 sets of speakers, right? The right way to do that is with 4 channels of power. Wiring two different sets of speakers in parallel to drop it to 2 Ohms is a bad idea. If they're the same sets of speakers going right next to each other that's a different story.

There's very little audible difference between 130W RMS and 200W RMS, but it will take more current which your electrical system is not prepared to provide. Right now that Audioque 2200 amp in your signature is capable of pulling a lot more current that your stock alternator can provide. Adding another 800W is going to cause problems for you.

Wil be running a set of cdt hd61a and 2 6x9 cdt mid woofers in rear. I dont have a problem running my t400.4 and aq2200 right now. How much more draw woukd a 200x4 be?

I looked up your T400-4 and saw it's rated for 60W x 4 and 200W x 2 @ 4 Ohms each. The calculation to show the relation between amperage and watts is W = V x I. This doesn't take into consideration the efficiency of your amp, which actually makes the current draw for a given amount of power even higher. This is to get a "worst case" amperage draw figure which is part of why you aren't having issues with your current pair of amplifiers.

If the T400-4 is wired in 4 channel mode on 4 Ohm speakers the potential maximum current draw is 240W / 14.4V = 16.7 amps. If we factor in 65% efficiency, which is a guess based on the Class AB design, that 16.7 amps to make 240W is now increased to 25.7 amps. (16.7 / 0.65)

TL;DR:

If you put in an 800W Class AB amplifier that will increase the current draw 3.33 times, for an increase of 60 amps.
