Behringer RIP List...

Ok, so I am back off the road and have more things to list.

Actually, I have one idem to list just from my working this weekend.

My company has been doing the sound for the National Tractor Pull Championships for the last 20 odd years. (System we use is as follows, Yamaha DM1000, 7x QSC CX1202V, 1x QSC CX6T, 2x Stuwart 7800, 6x Sennheiser Wireless, 25x Atlas BIA-100, 11x Community R.5HP, 2x Community R2.) It is hosted on the Wood County Fair grounds. The Fair grounds purchased their own Paging system (70volt line horns) about 5 maybe 6 years ago. Well, every year since then we have had the issue of getting rid of this terrible buzz/humm when we hook the two systems together (1000ft+ streetch going from a Yamaha DM1000 ->Isolators -> Behringer Mixer). Usually we have to put a odd compinations of isolators and line balancers to finally get it down below -50db on the console inputs.

This year I pulled the Behringer and dropped in an older Alesis Studio 12R. Guess what... No humm, no buzz, no pops... Without isolators or ground transformers.

Well naturally when you stretch a cable over a long distance you are going to pick up some noise...

But, when the noise is very obvious on the front side of a pre-amp that is a totally different story.

90% of people don't even have a clue on to what has to be done in the termed 'Dime' Store Audio. We do motor sports events and things of the like all over the Mid-West. There are many situations where you are going to have to run a feed cable 1000ft or greater.

My point was, which you missed because you are biased, that with the Behringer we had noise that was almost -30db to -15db. With the Alesis the noise went away, even though the Behringer is supposed to have fully balanced inputs just the same as the Alesis.

A few things to note.

* Majority of home audio gear is *un-balanced* signal path.

* A poor balanced signal path will be no worse than a un-balanced signal path.

Think about this for a moment. You have high end home audio gear with

RCA [unbalanced], and lets say there is no abnormal induced noise because your

cables are short, etc.

Then..........you migrate from RCA to the XLR world to get a 'balanced' signal path

hoping for noise cancellation. Why would you go from a scenario which offered

you no abnormal noise to a balanced audio world hoping to get noise reduction

when you didn't have this problem in the first place?

I'm all for balanced connections but if your cables are short, the issue becomes

moot. The cable length from pro audio as compared to pro audio is totally different. Pro audio has alot issues if you run long cables, home audio will have very little by comparison as the average cable length is short.

What cables do you use for 1000 foot run? You can make some killer DIY cables

with some nice Belden cable for cheap.

I don't know the exact model of the cable but it is Horizon cable that is made for long distance installs.

I realize that in Home Audio you are going to have shorter cable runs. However, the thing is that if the electronic device has faults which appear in the long run they will also have faults that appear in the short run... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
