Beginner question...what is the best position to put subs?

Hey...I'm a beginner to amp and sub installation so this question probably sounds pretty dumb but... What is the best position to put subs in? I bought 2 12" off of my friend already in a box.

He said if you position the box so the subs are facing the seats then it is better. But I see alot of people facing them towards the back end of the car.

Which way is better? Or does it not matter?

Depends on the vehicle in question, and no one can accurately answer this question since all installs are different due to infinite variables.

have mine facing into the cabin and in my car it seems to be louder

Its whatever sounds better to you... Try both ways and see what suits your listening taste better.

A friend has his subs at the aft section of the trunk, seems to make it a lot louder.
