Anyone here buy anything from bestbuy worth over a grand or more and get BB Geek squad Black Tie Warranty that covers parts and labor for two years? im thinkin about a laptop and its around 1,149 plus 103 tax and if i get the warranty its another 199 bucks... im just wondering if its really worth it and if most people stuff has crapped out... or if it the warranty is just a scam and doesn't cover stuff like its suppose too..

I almost never buy extended warranties unless they're really cheap and they cover something the standard warranty doesn't. Otherwise if you pay for a 2 year warranty you're really only getting a year as most of them are redundant with the manufacturer's warranty for the first year.

These things are like free money falling from the sky for retail stores. Have no specific experience with that one though. Find out what it covers above and beyond the warranty it comes with.

on lap top yes

anything else no

I dropped my laptop once and the screen cracked, that paid for it self

About 3 months ago my gf dropped the same laptop and the screen cracked again...agian under warranty.

BB warranty is good if your gonna use the thing heavily or its gonna get beat up

Things such as tvs,dvd players,vaccums,washer and dryer, etc you dont need a warranty, if anything the manufacures warranty will cover whatever it is that goes wrong

I got the BB warranty on my Zen Vision M, they told me it would cover 100% of anything for 3 years, even theft (with a police report, obviously). It also would be full value, not pro-rated, and if it broke, they'd give me the $300 I paid for it in credit to get another. My screen went blank for a few minutes the other day and I was hoping it would continue, since my warranty is up in June or July.... but it started working again. Sucks to HOPE your shit will break so you can get a new and better one. I'd LOVE to get a Vision W. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Although now that I look, doesn't appear BB is carrying them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

does it cover a broken part? say you break the screen? If no then no unless the battery in them sucks. how much is a new battery?
it doesn't cover broken parts on accidental

* Parts and labor coverage

* No deductibles, no hidden charges and no out-of-pocket costs

* No-lemon policy

* Normal wear-and-tear coverage

* Power surge protection

* Preventive maintenance on select items

* Web portal access for managing your account

Don't EVER buy Bestbuy's extended warranties or Geek squad offers. If you haven't realized it yet, Bestbuy employs some of the most incompetent fools. How knowledgeable do you think the tech's are when the sales folks can't even tell you the differences between an LCD panel and a plasma panel?

Do a quick Google search on the Geek squad propaganda and it will become obvious that the "service" really doesn't help the customer. You will find millions of cases where customers get screwed over through BB's extended warranty offers/Geek squad service. You will pay out of your *** for the extended warranty and will find yourself paying out of your *** AGAIN when your shit goes bad UNDER warranty. Some items require BB Geek squad installation (keep in mind that you will be paying out of your *** again for this) in order for the item to remain under warranty. WTF is that all about?

Did I mention that BB makes almost all of their profits from selling these extended warranties and Geek squad packages to unsuspecting customers?

I guess it must be the stores in your area but all the BB I have gone to have decent help

Not the best but they know thier product at least. Sure they dont know every tv ever made or every type of amp/sub.

Like I said,ive dropped my laptop twice and had a broken screen.

I told them it was dropped, which would fall under accidental dropage and the fixed it

duh they make there money off the warrentys, its all profit, they dont have to pay anyone to sell it.

if bb's warrentys are anything like the ones we sold at cc, they are worth it. I have a couple buy a computer with accidental they came back 2 weeks later because there kids push it off the table, cracked the screen and what not. We gave them a new computer.

I've never bought anything worth more than a few hundred from best buy, but I can tell you that their warrenties are solid. I've taken back a ps2 and a camera with no questions asked. They went and got me a brand new one off the shelf.

Also, I just remembered my buddy bought a desktop from best buy for the warranty. That thing got messed up hard from viruses/spyware/etc. and he got a newer better model almost 2 years later for free. Same thing happened with a t.v. he bought. Either the kid is lucky as balls or he's scamming the crap out of them.

My friend got his 360 elite for BB, and got a 2 year warranty from them. Everytime he's had a problem with it, he just took it back there, and got a new one, with no problems.

the way it used to be the warranty didn't cover the laptop battery nor did it cover drops or cracks, it covered "normal" wear and use. tWhen I worked there was between 1999-2003. I would read the fine print.
