Bass test cd?

whats clipping? Im using it so i can hear some sweet bass, do you have any suggestions for a cd to get? I just want to hear lows and highs etc.

clipping is when you turn up your deck or amp too much and it clips the top and bottom of the sound wave

use this....#3 http://www.resnet.trinity.edu/areynol1/gain.htm

realm has 0db tones in the download section http://www.realmofexcursion.com/main.html

also play a 40 or 50hz tone and slowly turn it up, when the sound starts to change besides getting louder, youre reached xmax (linear excursion limit), going beyond that and you will soon reach xmech (excursion limit) go beyond xmech and you will break your sub sooner or later

cause there are 2 types of power handling, thermal and mechanical

thermal always stays the same, thats why you have to set your amp gain correctly so you dont bake your sub

mechanical is box dependant, thats why you play a 40 or 50 hz tone to give you an idea at what volume your sub will start to reach its excursion limit

xmax is an important spec, because at xmax, the sub is putting out ABOUT 10% distortion which is usually inaudible when it comes to subs. above 10% we can usually start to hear it

if this is a messy post, im in a hurry and will fix it later

got to go

I understand how to change the gain i just dont understand how to get it where it needs to be?

use a DMM, i think there's a sticky somewhere on it. ( http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63933 )

if not, turn your gain all the way down, then turn your headunit up to where your maximum is at your listening preference(i.e if your headunit goes up to 60, but the loudest you ever listen to is 50, turn it to 50) then slowly turn your gain up until you hear distortion. once you hear distortion, back your gain up a little bit and don't go past your usual on your headunit...
