Bass Settings??

I know we all run subs to get our bass but where does everyone have their bass settings at on their head unit. How much difference does it make for the sound quality to turn you bass up at the head unit level, distortion ect.. Could it actually damage subs when you run a generous amount of bass from the head unit? Cmments apreciated.

will cause clipping if you would have set your gains on the flat settings (in their middle settings at 0)
