bass question for you all...

whats up all..i am new to here...and maybe someone has had this same issue...so here goes...when my trunk is closed my bass is less...when it's open it's more (deeper and a tad louder)...it also changes the way some of the bass responds...for instance..kid rocks (you never met a MF like me) ....when closed it's kinda tight...when open still sounds good but loose.....now to my gear....panasonic head unit with tiltable face plate....kenwood kac-8103d monoblock amp (500 watts @ 2 ohms)....legacy 1257d in a sealed 1.25 cubic foot boc...other speakers are 4 way 6x9's (generic-odd name brands)....and stock front speakers....car is a 96 pontiac grand prix se...now another question i have is....with the sub i am running....could i use a ported box and get better and louder bass from it?....or should i stick with the sealed box?....and is it normal for the sound to be better with the trunk open?.....hope i was good enough in asking this and you have all the info you need....thanx in advance JIM

is your sub facing rearward? box pushed back towards the tailgate?

ah, try having the sub behind the seat, but facing the rear of the car...then see what the difference is...

mine is loudest pushed back to around 6 inches from the tailgate, but i have a smaller car.
