Bass Q??

On my new clarion deck I have the option of setting the Bass Q to 1, 1.25, 1.5 or 2. What exactly is Bass Q?

After reading a little at Crutchfield.com I found out that Bass Q is the Bass Q factor, but what is that, exactly?

the Q it the width of the frequencys that are boosted by the bass boost it is measured in octaves.
