Bass louder when door/windows open

I have a 95 240sx with a 12" sub in the trunk on the passenger side.

For some reason whenever the doors are open (especially the passenger side door) or the windows the bass gets a lot louder.

Anyone know why this is/what can I do besides driving with my windows down all the time to get the full bass?

You vehicle is acting like a large bandpass enclosure.

It is known that most vehicles are louder when te opposite door/window are open.

Want to impress a friend in the passenger seat, leave their window up... and open your driver window or door.

my explorer likes to get nice and loud at the head rest to me, when i crack my passenger side window halfway down. needless to say, i drive like that, even when its cold as hell out.

The thing is though...its not the opposite side, its the same side

the sub is on the passenger side and when the passenger door is open it gets really loud

That's not what I'm talking about... I'm talking about where YOU are.

YOU are in the driver seat... so when you open the passenger door... it's louder.

please elaborate. i'd like to know also
Don't remember the exact formula, I believe it is the speed of sound divided by the distance between your front and rear windshield. Then typically take the 1/4 of the that as your tuning fq, it is usually kinda of low 29-34ish.

Ah, I get it now.

I still don't understand the whole "tune your box" thing
