Bass doesn't carry... why?

The bass in my car hits hard and loud, but doesn't carry. I was at the car audio shop today, and they mentioned that normally systems as loud as mine make the shop rattle, but mine didn't. I have ALOT (3 LAYERS) of dynamat extreme in the trunk. So much that I need to cut out a hole in the rear deck to let bass in.

I would think the bass not carrying would be a good thing, meaning that your car is actually holding the bass.

Or, am I wrong and there is something not right with my setup?

Its not always good for other people to hear your bass...

Could care less, just wondering if it was a sign that something isn't right.

Or if it is a good sign that the sound is staying in the car, and not leaving.

Good bass = inside of car

Bad bass = outside of car

There is nothing more impressive than to pull up to a place with the stereo pounding hard only to open the door and have people freak out about the difference. If you have a good system, the bass will normally stay within the walls of the car where as other systems will just rattle the hell out of the trunk. From what you've said, you have a good sounding system.

If you have a good system, the bass will normally stay within the walls of the car where as other systems will just rattle the hell out of the trunk. From what you've said, you have a good sounding system.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit i dont know bout yall but i like to pull up to school in the mornings with my windows up with AC on and stereo about at 15 out of 62(very low) and ppl still turn heads cuz they hear me from far away and at the afternoon when we get out i like to slam it at 35-40 and have ppl hear my bass from around the whole school, my school is huge.

you obviously dont have the system configured properly if you have far-carrying, car-rattling bass at that low of a volume... turn ur **** bass down and listen to the other 98% of the sound spectrum.
