Bass boost theory

My system is loud enough for me lol, but im tired of reading about everyone saying don't use it w/o giving facts on it

The issue is, that is the real answer. Do not use it. If some one has to ask about it or anything they do not understand it's function. Most use it as a way to "increase the loudness". Since the vast majority use it in this manner the correct answer is to suggest not to use it. As I said before, it has a function but it is very limited and there are better ways to adjust the response curve.

So in short, do not use bass boost. It will eventually damage your product.

Dctc- I was also just proven right that it does work. Might not work very well but it does help some.

And im not 100% sure but I think even your dc amp has it fyi

It does "work" to boost the freq its set to. It Also overdrives the amp while its boosting that freq, causing clipping. So in reality, does it "work"? Like stated, you can set your gain to compinsate. but you will mis out on all the other freqs. Whats the point?

Prorabbit- I get what you are sayin

Mantis- instead of just telling people do not use it, it would help more telling the reasons for not using it

He did, you just arent understanding it.

Bass boost changes the shape of the signal, after a certain point the signal becomes clipped and the top of the wave will be flat instead of round. 98% of music that people play is in the mp3 form, a format that is intentionally compressed and clipped. Then you are adding bass boost to this already clipped signal and this gives you a recipe for distortion and blown equipment.

here is what bass boost at 45hz does to the signal:

Seriously dude, if you haven't grasped the concept that bass boost is a bad idea, they you're retarded. Best case, it's an inaccurate way of flattening your response, worst case you blow your subs because you're feeding them a clipped signal. It's as simple as that.

I know how to set my gains, BUT that being said I have read so many times over and over do not use bass boost. But have not read anyone state why not to use it. So I made this thread so someone can inform us why not to use it. I myself did not know half of what you guys have told me, but I have as lso never blown anything from using it so I wanted to know why it was bad

Please allow me to spell this out for you.

If you have properly set your gains, then there is very little room between the clean signal you're sending your subs, and a clipped signal (clipped signals are bad because they heat up your sub's coil very quickly and that leads to blown woofers). So, what bass boost does is it amplifies a very narrow band of the signal, which pushes it over the edge and clips your signal (which is something we DON'T want) so assuming you set your gains correctly, you won't see any practical increase in the performance of your subs, unless you change your equipment or enclosure.

Tik- like the saying goes if everyone else jumped off a cliff would you?... 75% of the people on here do not know why they re not suppose to use it other then it clips the signal. So since they heard from someone else it is bad they say dont use it. I on the otherhand wanted more of a reason then dont use it, it will cause you to clip
